(BUTLER TOWNSHIP) – A Thursday morning fire destroyed a Butler Township home.

The Quincy Fire Department was called to 983 Clarendon Road just after 5 AM Thursday for a fire. Crews arrived and were met by the Coldwater Fire Department. They found an unoccupied, two story home in flames. The Homer and Litchfield Fire Departments were also called in to help fight the fire.

As crews tried to put out the blaze, the Branch County Sheriff's Department along with Branch County 911 were able to locate the owner of the home, who was safe at their residence in Coldwater. The Clarendon Road house had been recently purchased and was being renovated.

The fire was finally extinguished. An investigation determined the fire started from spontaneous combustion from staining materials and oily rages which had been discarded on the porch the previous evening. It is being called accidental.
