(NORTHEAST INDIANA, SOUTHERN MICHIGAN & NORTHWEST OHIO) - A Winter Storm Warning is in effect from 10 a.m. Saturday through 7 p.m. Sunday, with heavy snow expected to make travel dangerous across the tri-state region.

Snow will begin late Saturday morning into early afternoon, with the most hazardous conditions developing between 6 and 11 p.m. Forecasters say snowfall rates could hit 1 to 2 inches per hour, rapidly covering roads and cutting visibility. Winds up to 30 miles per hour may create blowing and drifting.

Totals of 6 to 9 inches are expected across Steuben and Noble counties in Indiana, Branch County in Michigan, and surrounding areas of northwest Ohio, with isolated higher amounts possible.

System snow will taper off by sunrise Sunday, but lake-effect bands may drop another inch or two through Sunday afternoon and evening.

If you need to travel regionally, meteorologists say this morning is the safest time to do it, especially if you're heading toward northwest Indiana, where conditions will deteriorate sooner.

Drivers are urged to carry emergency supplies and check 5-1-1 for the latest road conditions.
