ANGOLA — The No. 18 Trine women's basketball team won its first Michigan Intercollegiate Athletic Association Tournament Championship on Saturday night with a 49-42 victory over Calvin in Hershey Hall. With the win, the Thunder earned an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament.
Trine improves to 24-2 this season.
LAGRANGE – Elkhart Central won the gymnastics sectional at Lakeland on Saturday, edging Wawasee by 3 points. East Noble was third, Lakeland fourth, Angola fifth, Westview ninth and West Noble tenth.
INDIANAPOLIS – Northridge swimmer Spencer Lehman won two state titles on Saturday, taking first in the 200 IM and 500 freestyle. The Raiders finished fifth in the team standings.
MOUNT PLEASANT – The Bronson wrestling team fell in the Division 4 state semifinals to Hudson 38-25. Hudson would go on to win the State Title, beating New Lothrop 51-13 in the finals.
KALAMAZOO – Sturgis will be sending four bowlers to the Division 2 Individual State Finals. Austin Robinson finished second at the Division 2 Boys Individual Regional while teammate Noah Kinsey was eighth. In the girls Regional meet, Lindsey Spillers came in third and Kayle Johnson was tenth.
KALAMAZOO – Bronson's Brandon Hyska captured a Division 4 Individual Bowling Regional title over the weekend and qualifies for the Division 4 Individual State Finals. He will be joined by teammate Ryan Wisman, who came in second at the Regional meet.
