ALLENDALE – At the Michigan Division 4 state golf finals Friday Centreville’s Carter Geigly was tied for ninth place after shooting an opening round 8-over-par 80. Geigley made some adjustments to overcome early nerves. The second round starts this morning at 9 at Grand Valley State University.

INDIANAPOLIS – Evansville Memorial’s doubles team of Abby Myers and Margo Throop overpowered West Noble’s senior duo of Tara Miller and Riley Kruger in the quarter finals of the state tournament. The 6-1, 6-2 loss ended the four-year partnership of Miller and Kruger, who were the Charger’s first duo to advance to the state tournament.

LOS ANGELES – The Michigan Wolverine baseball team nearly collapsed Friday at Jackie Robinson Stadium in Los Angeles. They gave up two runs in the bottom of the ninth to the UCLA Bruins in their Super Regional game. But they escaped with a 3-2 win in front of 19-hundred fans to advance.

MLB:
Minnesota 6, Detroit 3 Twins designated hitter Nelson Cruz's solo homerun gave the Twins a 4-3 lead against the Detroit Tigers. Minnesota would beat Detroit 6-3.

Kansas City 6, White Sox 4
Cleveland 5, Yankees 2 Indians first baseman Carlos Santana's two-run homerun gave the Indians a 4-2 lead against the New York Yankees. Cleveland would beat New York 5-2.

Cubs 3, St. Louis 1 – Javier Baez hit a two run HR to give the Cubs a 2-0 lead over the Cardinals. Chicago beat St.Louis 3-1
