The Lakeland High School Athletic Department has announced that Ryan O’Shea will be the new Head Varsity Football Coach.
Coach O’Shea comes to Lakeland after having gained experience at Monroe Central, Yorktown, Lafayette Central Catholic, South Bend St. Joseph, and Jimtown High School.
Lakeland Athletic Director, Roman Smith, said “There were several great candidates in the mix” for the position. Smith added that he is “extremely excited to get to work with O’Shea” because “he aligns with everything Lakeland is trying to build”.
During his tenure at Monroe Central High School (2010 and 2011), Coach O’Shea was able to work as the quarterbacks, wide receivers, and inside linebackers coach. He then moved on to be the quarterbacks coach at Yorktown High School (2012). After Yorktown, Coach O’Shea was able to advance his coaching career by securing a spot on the Lafayette Central Catholic Football Staff. Lafayette Central Catholic is known to be a small school powerhouse in the sport of football, having won 8 state championships. While at Lafayette Central Catholic, in 2015, Coach O’Shea was able to help the knights go a perfect 15-0, winning an IHSAA State Championship.
Most recently, Coach O’Shea has been a part of the Jimtown High School Football Staff as their quarterbacks coach, pass game coordinator, and Head JV Coach. He has been with the Jimmies since the 2017 season, compiling a JV record of 15-2, and having made it to two IHSAA Sectional Championships.
