CENTREVILLE – Authorities says the skeletal remains found Monday were those of Venus Stewart.
In a media release, Michigan State Police confirmed that the remains found Monday afternoon in a shallow grave in Fulton, Michigan were that of Venus Stewart, who has been missing since April 26, 2010.
Her estranged husband Doug Stewart confessed on Monday that he had kidnapped and killed her. He also led police to the place where he buried her.
Doug Stewart was convicted of first degree murder and conspiracy to commit first degree murder in March 2011. Up until recently he had maintained his innocence in Venus' disappearance.
State Police officials say that for helping authorities find Venus' body, Doug Stewart will receive an X-Box video game system and also be allowed to take part in programs at the Saginaw Correctional Facility, where he is serving his sentence.
