ANGOLA -- An Angola woman was sentenced to ten years on Friday morning in Steuben Circuit Court.
Court reports indicate that 35-year-old Heather Michelle Garr pleaded guilty to attempted voluntary manslaughter, a level 2 felony. The case stems from an October 9, 2017 shooting of Doug Richter at his rural Steuben County home. The original level 1 felony charge was dismissed.
After serving 10 years, Garr will serve five years probation. She was ordered continued mental heath treatment and must follow the strict requirements of the Indiana Sex and Violent Offender Registry when released.
The victim Doug Richter was shot eight times at his property on East CR 300N. Richter said he does not believe Garr is the one who shot him, saying "other people were at the property the night of the shooting".
