Officers not charged for firearms mischief

GOSHEN – Three off-duty police officers won’t face charges in connection with a drunken escapade on December 14th.

Elkhart County Prosecutor Vicki Elaine Becker says a failure by other officers to investigate the reckless use of a firearm by the three intoxicated officers prevents her office from bringing charges in that aspect of the case.

The pickup truck was driven by Goshen Police Officer Brody Brown. He was charged with Operating While Intoxicated and pled guilty and accepted responsibility for his actions.

Off-duty Goshen Police Officer Kyle Kalb and Off-duty Elkhart Police Officer Leonard Dolshenko were in the vehicle with Brown but refused to respond to investigating officers about the sounds of shots being fired inside the vehicle.

Both officers were later formally interviewed after the Elkhart County Sheriff’s Office took over the investigation, and both said they could not recall anything about shots being fired.

Goshen’s Board of Public Works is expected to announce results of an internal investigation of the matter next week.
