Two dead, one injured in downtown Garrett fire

GARRETT – Two people died in a fire in downtown Garrett early this morning.

Garrett Fire Chief Ted Christensen said the fire broke out in the residential area on the second floor of a brick building in the 100 block of South Randolph Street around 12:30 a-m.

The floor is known as Hall’s Sleeping Rooms which are available for rent.

The names of the victims are withheld pending notification of relatives. A third person was taken to a hospital with injuries.

The State Fire Marshal’s office and Indiana State Police are investigating the cause of the fire.

Units from six other fire departments assisted Garrett firefighters in extinguishing the blaze.
