Traffic stop leads to drug bust at Toll Road entrance

HOWE – A traffic stop for equipment violations made late Wednesday night led to the arrest of a 24 year old South Bend man following the discovery of suspected cocaine and marijuana.

Trooper Zarek Finley saw a 2006 BMW with equipment violations taking the Howe exit from the Toll Road. Finley initiated a traffic stop after the BMW when through the Toll Plaza, just west of State Road 9.

During his interaction with the driver, Aries Jevon Alexander, Finley smelled raw marijuana. A subsequent search of the vehicle turned up more than 30 grams of suspected marijuana and an estimated five grams of suspected cocaine. Alexander also had nearly $200.00 in cash, items of drug paraphernalia and a loaded .40 caliber handgun.

Alexander was incarcerated in the LaGrange County Jail on preliminary charges of: Dealing Cocaine, Level 2 Felony

Dealing Marijuana, Class A Misdemeanor, Possession of Cocaine, Level 4 Felony, and Possession of Marijuana, Class B Misdemeanor

LaGrange County deputies assisted at the scene.
