Intoxicated man with shotgun prompts SWAT response

TOPEKA – A man who threatened to harm police on Facebook video feeds is now eating his meals at the LaGrange County Jail.

The LaGrange County Sheriff’s Department received information just before 7:30 Thursday evening that 41-year-old Jeremy Jones of rural Topeka was possibly intoxicated and willing to act on those threats. So they alled in the Indiana State Police Emergency Response Team.

But before that unit arrived local deputies were informed that shots were being fired by Jones, apparently from a 12 gauge shot gun. So local officers responded to the scene in the 7000 block of County Road 680 South and tasered Jones when he refused to obey commands by the officers.

Jones was safely taken into custody and no one was injured.

He faced preliminary charges of intimidation with a deadly weapon, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon, criminal confinement and misuse of 9-1-1.

Officers from Topeka, Wolcottville, and LaGrange assisted deputies at the scene.
