Sturgis commission won't seek re-election due to health

STURGIS – A sitting Sturgis City Commissioner will not be seeking re-election this fall.

During Wednesday's meeting Chuck Huber announced he would not be running for his seat as a Second Precinct Commissioner. Huber says he needs to get his health back.

Huber says he has been diagnosed with cancer and that he will undergo surgery and should only miss about six weeks of work.

Huber says he consulted with his wife and children before making his decision to step down from the Commission. He says the prognosis is there will be no chemotherapy or radiation treatments, and he wants to get his life back.

Huber says once he is healthy, he plans to once again run for a seat on the City Commission.
