School safety grants coming to local districts


INDIANAPOLIS – Almost $110-thousand dollars in School Safety grant money is coming to LaGrange County.

It’s part of $14 million dollars awarded to 338 qualifying schools in the state.

Lakeland and Prairie Heights are getting the maximum amount of $50-thousand dollars. Westview is getting $9,345.

The districts must provide a 50% local match.

The funds can be used to hire a school resource officer, conduct a threat assessment, and purchase equipment to limit access to the school or expedite the notification of first responders.

East Noble, Central Noble and West Noble each got $50,000 grants.

Fremont Schools got $35,000 and the MSD of Steuben County got $28,500.
