Avilla man seriously injured in Branch County crash


KINDERHOOK TOWNSHIP – An Indiana man is in critical condition following a crash Friday afternoon.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department was called to south I-69 and Pearl Road in Ovid Township at 1:25 PM to investigate an incident. Witnesses told deputies that a motorcycle was pulling a trailer and lost control of his vehicle, rolling over several times.

The motorcyclist, identified as 52 year old Robert Kimmel of Avila, Indiana, was unconscious, and had not been wearing a helmet at the time of the crash.

Deputies along with the Lakeland Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance treated Kimmel at the scene. He was then flown by Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Medical Center in Fort Wayne.

Also assisting at the scene were the Michigan State Police, and the Michigan Department Of Natural Resources.
