Sturgis gets grant for frisbee golf course

STURGIS – The City of Sturgis has been given a grant to help with the development of the Deadwood Disc Golf Course.

The Youth Advisory Council of the Sturgis Area Community Foundation awarded the City a $2,000 grant for the 18 hole disc golf course that will be Cade Lake Park.

Deadwood is being developed through a partnership between the City and St. Joseph County. The County is providing the site and in kind construction of the course. Sturgis is responsible for funding the materials and structural components.

Jaymes MacDonald, the St. Joseph County Parks Director, has worked with disc golf course designers to develop the course layout.

The project is estimated to cost $13,000 and the City has received community support through fundraising as well as the grant from YAC. City Manager Mike Hughes says Sturgis simply could not offer these types of recreation amenities without the help of the community and organizations like the Sturgis Area Community Foundation.

A ribbon cutting ceremony will be on Saturday, May 19 at 9 AM followed by a grand opening tournament.
