ATHENS TOWNSHIP – An attempted break in at an Athens Township home is being investigated.

Michigan State Police and the local tribal police were sent to a home after a call came in just after 10:30 Tuesday morning. A 57 year old man says he was sleeping and heard someone knocking on his front door. He got dressed and went to investigate and found a man and a women who entered the house through the rear door.

The man said he didn't know the suspects so he retrieved a knife and confronted them. The male suspect pulled out a black handgun and pointed it at the home owner as the pair fled the house.

They were last seen driving west onto W Avenue E towards Kalamazoo County in a early 1990's model dark colored Chevy Suburban.

One of the suspects is described as a white man between five feet seven inches and five feet ten inches tall with a thin build, scruffy facial growth and he was wearing a ball cap. The other suspect is a white woman, five feet four to five feet six inches tall with a heavy build, and dark hair pulled up in a bun.

If anyone has information on this incident or the suspects, they are asked to call the State Police Post in Marshall at 269-558-0500.
