Teen waives preliminary hearing in robbery case

CENTREVILLE – A Three Rivers teen will not have a preliminary hearing on a charge of armed robbery.

St. Joseph County District Court officials say 17 year old Austin Palmer waived his preliminary hearing during a pre-trial conference. He was arrested March 19 and charged with armed robbery following an incident at the Three Rivers Menard's Store.

Palmer allegedly pulled a gun on a store employee after being confronted about stealing merchandise. He ran from the store and headed east, where he was spotted by a St. Joseph County Sheriff's Deputy.

The officer followed Palmer to a wooded area and called for back up to create a perimeter. The Three Rivers K-9 Officer and his handler along with some other officers entered the woods and arrested Palmer without incident.

Palmer remains in the St. Joseph County Jail with bond set at $200,000. His case now moves to Circuit Court. A status conference will be set for a future date.
