Suspect in critical condition, deputy released


GARRETT – The suspect who traded gunshots with a DeKalb County deputy is hospitalized in critical condition.

Indiana State Police issued an update on the incident late Wednesday saying the deputy’s injuries were not life-threatening but he was hospitalized overnight and then released on Wednesday afternoon. Both officers are on administrative leave while the investigation continues.

The names of the suspect and the officers are being withheld as the investigation is underway. A report will be forwarded to the DeKalb County prosecutor’s office for review of potential charges.
