Patten guilty of first murder

KALAMAZOO – A jury found a Portage man guilty of premeditated murder Monday according to News Channel 3.

31-year-old Graciela Portillo-Esparza stepped between her brother and Zachary Patten as they argued last July.

Patten shot her and then fled to St. Joseph County where he allegedly shot his ex-wife’s new husband – Shane Richardson – who also died.

Sentencing is set for March 19th when Patten faces a life sentence.
