United Way of St. Joe County passes goal

CENTREVILLE – The St. Joseph County United Way wrapped up Campaign 2018 with it's annual party, held at Covered Bridge Farm Park north of Centreville Tuesday afternoon.

The goal of the campaign was to raise $911,000. But the total amount raised was well past that mark. Campaign 2018 Honorary Co-Chair Undersheriff Mark Lillywhite says they raised $1,034,573. That total is 13.5 percent over the goal set by the United Way Board.

There were 153 Leadership Givers, who pledge to donate at least $1,000 towards the campaign. They totaled 32.8 percent of the total given.

Lillywhite says he and Co-Chair, Sheriff Brad Balk, had a great time over the last year and realized that everyone contributes to help reach the campaign goal.

Morgan Olson was the top giver among companies in St. Joseph County towards the United Way. They gave $125,031 towards the campaign. The other companies in the top ten were TH Plastics; American Axle; Burr Oak Tool; Kadant Johnson; Sturgis Public Schools; Abbott Nutrition; Sturgis Hospital; City of Sturgis and Summit Polymers.

Special events also helped towards the Campaign 2018 goal, raising $340,685 or 32.9 percent of the total. Some of the special events include the WBET Radiothon, the Mega Raffle, the Silent Auction, Home Expo Pancake Breakfast, the golf outing and the Celebrity Waiter Nights.
