CENTREVILLE – The case of a former Sturgis High School teacher is moving on to St. Joseph County Circuit Court.

District Court personnel say 38 year old Keith Lang's case is heading to Circuit Court following a preliminary hearing Thursday. He is charged with two counts of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct. Lang was arrested in January after an investigation into alleged inappropriate relations with students that dated back to 2006.

He was initially charged with three counts of fourth degree criminal sexual conduct; and one count each of distributing or promoting child sexually abusive activity; using a computer to commit a crime; possession of child sexually abusive material; and distributing sexually explicit visual or verbal matter of children.

Lang was set to enter a no contest plea in September but District Court Judge Jeffrey Middleton would not accept it as presented. As part of the plea, Lang would not have served any jail time and after five years could have withdrawn his plea and entered a plea of assault and battery. That would have kept Lang off the sex offender registry.

He will be arraigned in Circuit Court in the next week.
