Man charged after hitting buggy from behind

TOPEKA – Police jailed a Steuben County man after his pickup truck struck a buggy from behind and injured three people.

30-year-old Waneta Miller of rural Ligonier and 15-month-old Charity Miller were flown to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Waneta suffered a cut to the head and the little girl was bleeding internally.

25-year-old Ina Miller suffered a head injury and was taken by ambulance to Parkview.

LaGrange County police say the three were in an eastbound buggy on County Road 600 South just west of 700 West. An eastbound pickup driven by 26-year-old Benjamin Hanna of rural Hudson struck the buggy from behind, ejecting all three occupants.

Police jailed Hanna on a preliminary charge of operating while intoxicated by a controlled substance.

The crash happened just before 1 p-m.
