Onsite investigation of Lagrange downtown fire ends

LAGRANGE – Investigators from nine insurance companies wrapped up their review of the fire site in downtown LaGrange this week.

"The origin of the Family Dollar started in the southeast corner of the Family Dollar. With all of the destruction and the amount of fire that was in the back of that building right now the fire is declared undetermined. There are some other things that they're looking at but for the most part there was not enough there to determine an exact cause of what started that fire," said
LaGrange Fire Chief Dave Elick.

He says that while the site investigation is complete, he doesn’t know when removal of the debris will begin.

"All of the remains of what's left have been turned over to the building owner's insurance company and it's up to them to have it demolished, hauled away or rebuilt. The investigation's completed and it's all up to the insurance company now. As of Monday they did not have a timeline of when cleanup might be started."

The September 12th fire destroyed Family Dollar and Gould’s Sports Apparel. Santa Cruz Tienda Mexican grocery and Lewis & Lambright Real Estate sustained smoke and water damage.
