GARRETT – Foggy conditions were a factor in a one vehicle crash involving two teens.

The DeKalb County Sheriff's Department says they were taken to a hospital Monday evening after the car they were in slammed into a tree.

17-year-old Savanna Gipson of Kendallville told police she was driving north on County Road 327 when she veered off the road because of fog. She tried to stop but ended up hitting a tree head-on.

A passerby helped Gipson and her passenger, 18-year-old Zain Shetley of Garrett out of the vehicle.

Both Gipson and Shetley were taken to Parkview Regional Medical Center. Gipson was treated and released. Shetley was admitted with multiple fractures on his right side.
