(KIMMELL) – A Noble County highway worker was killed in a work related accident.

According to the Noble County Sheriff's Department, a crew member was mowing a side ditch around 10 AM Tuesday in the 9,000 block of West Knapp Lake Road, when his tractor got struck.

Another highway worker pulled the tractor out of the ditch using a dump truck.

As the dump truck and tractor came to a stop on the road, a third employee, 53 year old Jerry W. Jones of Albion, walked in between the two vehicles to remove a tow chain. The tractor accidentally lunged forward and pinned Jones between the tractor and the dump truck.

Jones was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting the Sheriff's Department were the Noble Township Fire Department and the Noble County Coroner's Office.
