(ANGOLA) – A suspect has been arrested in connection with a murder that happened this summer in Northeast Indiana.

In a media release, Steuben County Sheriff Rodney Robinson said that his department arrested 30 year old Steven Restemayer of Coldwater in connection with the July murder of 36 year old Daniel Sheets. Sheets' body was discovered July 31 in the garage of a home in the 57,000 block of North County Road 675 East in Fremont Township.

Sheets was reported missing on July 23, after not being heard from and he was not answering his cell phone.

Sheets was reportedly seen at the home, which was the scene of a fire on July 24. When investigators went back to look over the property on July 31, they searched a garage, which was not affected by the fire, and found a body. An autopsy determined it was Sheets.

Police say the fire did not contribute to Sheets' death.

While searching the house and grounds, authorities found a man and two dogs inside a camper that was on the property. Restemayer was taken into custody on an outstanding warrant for failure to appear on a charge of carrying a handgun without a license out of DeKalb County. He was in the Steuben County Jail when the arrest warrant was served on Tuesday.

He is being held without bond, pending his initial court appearance on the murder charge. The case is still under investigation.
