(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Board of Education is looking to fill a vacancy.

During Monday's meeting, Sturgis Superintendent Dr. Art Ebert announced that Scott Swihart had announced his resignation on December 10. Ebert says Swihart is leaving the Board on good terms and has been involved not only with the school but also in the community. ...... {LISTEN}.

Swihart was first elected to the Board of Education in 2014. His current term runs until December 31, 2022.

According to Board Policy, the Board of Education has 30 days to find someone to finish Swihart's term on the board.

After some discussion, the Board voted to have any interested individuals submit a written letter of interest to Ebert. That letter must be received by the end of the day on Tuesday, December 28, 2021. The letter can be emailed to aebert@sturgisps.org, or delivered to Sturgis Central Commons at 107 West West Street in Sturgis.

The Nominating Committee will then interview all interested individuals between December 29-31, 2021.

A special Board of Education Meeting will then be held on Monday, January 3, 2022 for the Board to vote on whether or not to approve the Nominating Committee's recommendation.

If you are interested in serving on the Board of Education, and have questions, please call 269-659-1502.
