(UNDATED) – An Elkhart man is dead following a Saturday afternoon crash.

The Elkhart County Sheriff's Office says just after 1 PM Saturday, 71 year old Rita Light of Bristol was traveling north on the inside lane of County Road 17, and was slowing down to turn west onto Farmwood Drive. Investigators say Light started to drift over the double yellow line prior to reaching the intersection, and was struck head on by a southbound vehicle, driven by 19 year old Brennon Norman of Elkhart. Norman was driving over 100 MPH.

Norman was not wearing a seat belt and was thrown from his automobile. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Light was trapped in her vehicle and had to be removed by first responders. She was then taken to South Bend Memorial Hospital to be treated for a leg injury.

A third vehicle, driven by 26 year old Kalvin Dobbs of Carmel, Indiana, was heading north and debris from the collision caused minor damage to his vehicle.

Dobbs was not injured in the incident. The investigation is continuing.
