(QUINCY) – A charge of first degree home invasion has been filed against a Quincy man.

The Branch County Sheriff's Department says they arrested 38 year old Daniel Earl following an investigation into an incident that happened on Sebring Road.

Deputies were called to the home by the homeowner. He told authorities he discovered the break in when he returned home and found Earl allegedly armed with a hatchet in his living room. The homeowner returned to his vehicle and got a hand gun, then held the suspect at gunpoint while he called 911 and continued holding the man until deputies arrived.

During questioning, Earl told police he picked up the hatchet because the home owner pointed a gun at him. Officers found several rounds of ammunition in Earl's sweatshirt. A search of the house determined that two weapons were missing.

Earl was arraigned in Branch County District Court and is being held on $50,000 bond.
