(ANGOLA) – Two raccoons are responsible for portions of Angola losing power Friday afternoon.

NIPSCO officials say the raccoons got into a substation shortly after 1:30 PM which caused the power outage to over 4,800 NIPSCO customers. It also took out power to traffic lights.

Crews worked to get power restored and by 5 PM approximately 50 percent of those without service had been restored.

Because of the cold temperature and with so many people without power, Steuben County Emergency Management set up temporary warming centers at the Angola Rural King and Wal Mart Stores along with the Fremont and Metz fire stations.
