MDHHS Issues Interim Guidance For Athletics
By: Mike Stiles - Tuesday, February 9, 2021

(LANSING) – The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services has issued interim guidance for athletics.

This information was issued following the MDHHS epidemic order issued last week that allows contact sports to resume in Michigan. The order requires masks to be worn during practices and competitions. If masks can not be worn, participants must be regularly tested for COVID-19, consistent with guidelines issued by the MDHHS.

In addition to wearing their masks, participants in contact sports need to maintain six feet of distance when not actively engaged in play. They should also use their own towels, clothing or other items to wipe their face or hands; provide their own food, drinks or water; and refrain from pre-event and post-event handshakes, hugs, fist bumps, high fives or contact celebrations.

It's also recommended that spectators are limited to two per athlete. Spectators are allowed with up to 250 people in stadiums that seat less than 10,000 and up to 500 people at venues that seat over 10,000 people.
