(ORLAND) – Steuben County has it's first ever female Fire Chief.

Orland Deputy Fire Chief Brooke Norton has been appointed the new Chief of the Orland Community Volunteer Fire Department.

Norton is a 26 year veteran with the Orland Fire Department, and brings with her a long family history. Both her grandfather and her father were the Chiefs of the department.

Norton was decorated during her service with the United States Coast Guard. She has worked emergency dispatch, presided as the Orland Town Marshal and responded many times as a search and rescue with her bloodhound Beck. Norton currently works as a paramedic for the Parkview LaGrange Healthcare System.

In a media release, Norton says she looks forward to working with neighboring fire departments and considers it an honor to continue the Norton family tradition in serving as Chief of the Orland Community Volunteer Fire Department.
