(STURGIS) – The Sturgis Fire Department was called out Friday to a house fire on the City's northeast side.

Sturgis Deputy Director of Public Safety Andy Strudwick says firefighters were sent to the 800 block of East Main Street at 7:30 AM Friday for a residential structure fire. Sturgis Police Officers were the first to arrive and found a fire on the back, exterior wall of the home. Police officers quickly discharged several fire extinguishers and were able to keep the blaze from spreading any further.

Firefighters entered the house and found no one was inside. They were able to safely remove a dog. Crews were on scene for approximately two hours extinguishing the fire and performing overhaul.

Sturgis Fire Marshal Cody Cripe is currently investigating the cause of the fire. If anyone has information on this blaze, they can contact Cripe by calling 269-651-7008.
