(LANSING) – State Representative Andrew Fink says Governor Whitmer needs to let Winter contact sports get underway.

Fink, a Republican from Hillsdale who represents the 58th District, is urging Whitmer and the Michigan Department of Health and Human Services to amend their unilateral orders and allow for Winter contact sports to resume in Michigan schools. Fink, a father of five, says parents and coaches are understandably concerned for their kids. Sports provide young people with confidence and structure while teaching them important life lessons such as teamwork and perseverance.

Winter sports were scheduled to start on Monday, February 1. Last Friday, Whitmer extended the epidemic order that bans contact sports until February 21.

In other news, Fink was recently appointed by Michigan House Speaker Jason Wentworth to serve as Vice Chair of the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Military and Veteran's Affairs and State Police.

Fink was also appointed to serve on the House Licensing and Regular Affairs, Insurance and Financial Services, and General Government Appropriations subcommittees, as well as the House Health Policy Committee.
