(MATTESON TOWNSHIP) – A suspect is in custody following a shooting incident in Branch County's Matteson Township.

Michigan State Police were called to a residence in the 900 block of West Colon Road just after 12 AM Thursday. The female resident of the property said that a family member came to the house unannounced and was upset she had her boyfriend there.

The victim went outside to tell the suspect to leave. The suspect began to leave and then stopped in the roadway. He allegedly threatened to kill the victim and shot a gun in her general direction as well as the house.

In addition to the victim's boyfriend, there were two children in the house. No one was injured and the suspect left the area in a brown colored Jeep.

The suspect, identified as a 28 year old Branch County man, was stopped a short time later and arrested in LaGrange County, Indiana. He is being held in the LaGrange County Jail on unrelated charges. He was found to have a firearm and suspected drugs in his vehicle at the time of his arrest.

MSP say they currently have a hold on the suspect on outstanding arrest warrants.

The incident is still under investigation.
