By: Mike Stiles - Wednesday, November 11, 2020

(BRONSON) – Three men were sworn in to serve on the Bronson City Council during Monday's meeting.

Incumbents Rick Johannes and Larry McConn along with newly elected Councilman William Rinehart took their oaths of office to start their terms. The Council voted to have McConn continue to serve as Bronson Mayor. Matt Watkins was elected to be Vice Mayor.

In new business, a new ground water ordinance was approved Monday night.

Bronson City Manager Brandon Mersman says the ordinance would provide for the restriction and regulation of the installation of wells in certain locations in the northern part of the City. The intent of the 11 page ordinance, according to Mersman, is to prevent people from using or consuming water from certain wells because of hazardous substances located in the groundwater.

Tests have shown that in certain areas of Bronson, ground water is contaminated because prior businesses located on that property. These areas make up an EPA Superfund, which is known as the North Bronson Industrial Area.
