(STURGIS) – Sturgis Public Schools has a new Athletic Director.

During Monday's study session, the Sturgis Board Of Education unanimously approved the hiring of Andy Hatt to the position of Athletic Director and Dean of Students. He will take over for Mark Adams, who is retiring at the end of December after 12 years as A.D.

Hatt has been an English teacher for six years at Sturgis High School and also currently serves at the Girls Varsity Basketball coach. Hatt spoke with Swick Broadcasting and says that moving from the classroom into an administrative role wasn't something he thought about until just a few years ago. ...... {LISTEN}.

Hatt will continue to serve as the Varsity girls basketball coach for the 2020-2021 season, and then make a decision on whether to step down or not.

Hatt says Sturgis Athletics has been under great leadership for the past twelve years with Adams as the A.D. He says Adams has been a great mentor and helped him grow as a coach and as a person.

During his time as Athletic Director, Adams oversaw Sturgis’ transition from the Big 16 Conference to the Wolverine Conference. Mark also oversaw the addition of Boys and Girls High School Bowling, Middle School Football, and Middle School Competitive Cheer.
