(QUINCY) – Quincy Community Schools have gone to virtual learning until November 30.

On Friday, Quincy Superintendent Marc Kramer released a letter to all Quincy School students, parents and guardians, saying the School District has transitioned to virtual learning and will remain on this path through Thanksgiving. Quincy High School started on line classes last Thursday and the rest of the District began on Friday.

Kramer says in the past week, there has been a dramatic rise in COVID-19 cases in the area, that has caused a significant amount of quarantines to take place. Quarantines occur when an individual is in close contact with another that has tested positive for COVID-19. While many that have been in close contact do not develop COVID-19, some do develop symptoms.

Quincy Schools currently has 10 staff members that are quarantined, and there is the possibility there could be four more staff members that need to quarantine as well. Kramer says substitute teachers are very few this year and the District will not be able to cover all the open positions caused by the quarantines.

While the virtual classes are going on, Quincy Schools' maintenance and custodial staff will be extensively deep cleaning all of the buildings to prepare for the return of students on November 30.

Parents are asked to work with their students and check their progress on a regular basis. If issues arise, please contact your student's teacher or school office. Counseling services will be available in each building and food service will continue to provide meals as they have been doing since the start of the school year.
