Several Contested Races In St. Joseph County

(UNDATED) – There were several contested races around St. Joseph County in Tuesday's General Election.

Perhaps one of the most watched was the campaign for the 59th District seat in the Michigan House Of Representatives. Republican candidate Steve Carra won the race with 26,548 votes. Democrat Amy East received 14,793 votes while Jack Coleman received 859 votes as a write in candidate.

There were two contested races for two seats on the St. Joseph County Commission. In The First District, Jared Hoffmaster was elected to the Commission , receiving 3,389 votes. Andrew George was second with 1,937 votes and Matthew Mosher was third with 318 votes.

In the Second District, incumbent Kathy Pangle was re-elected after defeating challenger Kathy Greaves 4,204 to 1,636.

Incumbent Commissioners Dennis Allen (4,711) in the Third
District, Daniel Czajkowski (4,234) in the Fourth District and Ken Malone (3,329) in the Fifth District all ran unopposed and were re-elected.

There were two contested seats on the Sturgis City Commission, and both had write in candidates vying for them. In Precinct 2, incumbent Travis Klinger was challenged by Joel Krontz. Klinger received 5 of the write in votes while Krontz had 3.

In the race for the Precinct 3 seat, Marvin Smith received 15 write in votes and Linda Harrington had 13 votes.

Incumbent City Commissioners Jon Good, Rick Bir and Robert Hile all ran unopposed and were re-elected. Good is the At Large Commission while Bir represents the First Precinct and Hile the Fourth Precinct.
