By: Mike Stiles - Friday, September 11, 2020

(STEUBEN COUNTY) – Indiana State Police detectives are asking for the public's help with their investigation into a fatal motorcycle crash.

Just after 9:30 PM on September 6, troopers were called to a crash in the 5000 block of South West Fox Lake Road, just east of South Menges Road in Angola. A motorcycle driven by 42 year old James Dameron of Wolcottville, failed to negotiate a curve in the road and went off the roadway.

Dameron struck a guide wire prior to the motorcycle hitting a utility pole. He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.

Witnesses reported that a passenger vehicle had stopped at the scene, possibly to provide assistance. It left the area before officers arrived. Investigators are seeking to identify this vehicle or identify the driver or any occupants.

Anyone who has information is urged to contact Indiana State Police Detective Jake Quick by calling 260-432-8661.

Dameron served as a reserve officer with the Wolcottville Town Marshall's Office since 2012, however he has been on administrative leave since July.
