(SHERMAN TOWNSHIP) – A Sturgis man has been hospitalized after a motorcycle crash.
St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says at 5:50 PM Monday, his deputies were called to Shimmel Road near Storms Road for a crash involving a motorcycle.
The investigation showed a 29 year old Sturgis man was traveling south at a high rate of speed. The driver attempted to pass multiple vehicles, at which time another southbound vehicle made a left hand turn into Glen Oaks Community College. The motorcyclist went off the roadway to avoid a collision and lost control in the ditch.
The driver was conscious and alert when first responders arrived, but showed signs of a head injury. He was flown by West Michigan Air Care to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo for further treatment.
The motorcyclist was wearing a helmet.
Also assisting at the scene were the Centreville and Three Rivers Fire Departments.
