(CENTREVILLE) – The St. Joseph County Commission has approved the framework that would move some employees to a 35 hour work week.

During Tuesday's meeting, the Commission approved letters of understanding with the General Unit, the Circuit Court, Family Court, Probate Court and the District Court Employees Association. County Administrator Teresa Doehring explains who will be effected by these agreements. ...... {LISTEN}.

These letters of understanding will not effect any employees who are funded by grants.

Commission Chairman Dennis Allen says COVID-19 is causing the County to look at these options, since revenues have been slowed down. Allen explains the County was looking at several different options as a way to help out. ...... {LISTEN}.

The letters of understanding were supposed to go into effect September 8, but Doehring says there is still some work that needs to take place before they are enacted. She says employees will be told well in advance when the new work weeks will start.

The County will review the situation at the end of December.
