(HOWE) – A Michigan man was killed in a crash on the Indiana Toll Road in LaGrange County.

Indiana State Police say at approximately 1:30 PM Wednesday, a semi driven by 33 year old Michel Menard of Crete, Illinois was disabled and parked on the right shoulder of the westbound lane of the Toll Road. A pick up, driven by 16 year old Patrick Denison of Gaylord, Michigan was traveling west and approaching the semi. For an unknown reason, the pick up veered onto the right shoulder and crashed into the rear of the semi.

Denison was ejected from the pick up and sustained several critical injuries. He was flown by Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Regional Medical Center in Fort Wayne and is listed in serious but stable condition.

A passenger in the pick up, 58 year old Brian Ziemba of Troy, Michigan, was fatally injured in the crash. He was pronounced dead at the scene by the LaGrange County Coroner.

Menard sustained a minor head injury. He was transported by Parkview EMS to Parkview LaGrange Hospital for evaluation.

It's not known if Denison or Ziemba were wearing their seat belts, but the airbags in the pick up did deploy.

Assisting at the scene were Shipshewana Fire Department and troopers from the Toll Road and Fort Wayne Posts. The crash is still under investigation.
