(BRONSON TOWNSHIP) – A crash between two vehicles Monday afternoon killed a Bronson man.

Branch County Sheriff John Pollack says the crash happened at the intersection of U.S. 12 and Bawden Road around 5 PM Monday. Deputies determined that 58 year old Michael Hyska of Bronson had left a business on U.S. 12 and was driving his pick up west. He swerved across the center line and struck a semi that was heading east.

The semi driver, 47 year old Elton Yeazel of Goshen, told officers he tried to swerve off of the road, but could not avoid colliding with Hyska. The crash caused Yeazel's semi to jack knife, and Hyska's pick up had front end damage.

Hyska was trapped in his truck, and was freed by the Bronson Fire Department. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Assisting at the scene were the Bronson Police Department, and the Sheriff's Department Victim Services Unit, along with the Branch County Road Commission and Life Care Ambulance.

Pollack says the crash is still under investigation, with help from the Michigan State Police.
