NE Indiana School Districts Getting COVID-19 Grants

(INDIANAPOLIS) – Several school districts in Northeast Indiana will be getting COVID-19 relief grants.

The State of Indiana announced on Wednesday that K-12 schools and universities in 81 of the State's 92 counties are getting money from the Governors Emergency Education Relief Fund. Just over $61.2 million is being given out, with $49.8 million going toward K-12 schools. The majority of the funds will be directed to public schools or public charter schools.

The money comes from Federal CARES Act coronavirus relief funds and are given to school districts who need to purchase devices for staff and students; improve the connectivity in school buildings; or train teachers on how to better teach virtually.

In Northeast Indiana, Lakeland School Corporation will receive $120,000; Prairie Heights Schools $100,400; Westview Schools $49,500; DeKalb County Central School District $137,500; DeKalb County Eastern School District $137,500; Garrett-Keyser-Butler Schools $52,390, and the East Noble Schools, St. John Lutheran School, St. Mary of the Assumption School and Oak Farm Montessori School, all in Noble County are receiving $40,000.

In addition, $11.2 million is being directed to 12 Indiana universities who will use the funds to provide professional development and curriculum for K-12 remote learning programs.
