(SHERMAN TOWNSHIP) – One person was flown from the scene following a two vehicle collision Saturday north of Sturgis.

St. Joseph County Sheriff Mark Lillywhite says his department was called out at 11:25 AM Saturday to North Centreville Road near Featherstone Road for a pick up vs tractor crash. Deputies say a 53 year old Sturgis man was driving south on Centreville Road from Featherstone Road and struck the rear of a 1947 Ford 9N tractor. The driver of the tractor, a 55 year old Bronson man, was thrown from the vehicle, and was unresponsive when first responders arrived on scene.

The Tri Township Fire Department and Life Care Ambulance treated the man on scene and then transported him to the Kirsch Municipal Airport where he was flown to Bronson Methodist Hospital in Kalamazoo.

The pick up driver was not injured. The names of the individuals involved have not been released.

Lillywhite says the incident is still under investigation. Speed and alcohol do not appear to be a factor in the crash.
