(UNDATED) – Two men are seeking the Republican nomination to run for St. Joseph County Sheriff.

Interim Sheriff Mark Lillywhite will go against Gordon Evilsizor in Tuesday's primary election. In January, Lillywhite was sworn in as the interim St. Joseph County Sheriff, taking over for Brad Balk who retired at the end of January, 2020. Lillywhite has been a member of the Sheriff's Department for 25 years, including the last 11 years as Undersheriff.

Evilsizor served five years as a patrolman in St. Joseph County. He is also the owner of Evilsizor Trucking and Evilsizor Irrigation. For the last eight years, he has been the Supervisor of Florence Township.

On his website, Evilsizor says if elected Sheriff, he would use his experience as a business owner and as a former law enforcement officer and bring that to the Sheriff's Office.
