MSP Urges People To Be Prepared For Extreme Heat
By: Mike Stiles - Saturday, July 4, 2020

(LANSING) – Temperatures this weekend will be above 90 degrees.

The Michigan State Police, Emergency Management and Homeland Security Division is urging everyone to take steps to stay safe during the extreme heat.

Captain Kevin Sweeney, Deputy State Director of Emergency Management and Homeland Security says extreme heat can be life-threatening. By taking some precautionary steps, people can minimize their risk of heat-related injury and help those who are most affected by severe heat.

Those steps include finding places with air conditioning to take a break from the heat; if you are outside find some shade and wear a hat wide enough to protect your face; wear loose, light-colored and lightweight clothing; drink plenty of fluids to stay hydrated; and avoid high energy activities.

Remember to check yourself, family members and neighbors for signs of heat-related illness.
