Sturgis Approves Millage Rate For 2020
By: Mike Stiles - Monday, June 29, 2020

(STURGIS) – Sturgis will not see an increase in their millage rates for 2020.

During last weeks meeting of the Sturgis City Commission, City Clerk Ken Rhodes presented the City Operating property tax rate, based on what had been discussed at the Commission's recent budget work session. ...... {LISTEN}.

Rhodes says under the Headlee Rollback, the City could consider a millage rate of 11.8894, without a vote of the electorate. That would take another public hearing to do so, but Rhodes says that is not what the City wants to do.

Vice Mayor Jon Good asked about the possibility of raising the millage to help with the possible lost revenue from the coronavirus pandemic. Rhodes says for this year, that isn't necessary. However depending on what the State has in store for 2021, that could be a discussion which may have to happen.

The Commission approved the millage rates by a unanimous vote.
