By: Mike Stiles - Saturday, June 27, 2020

(STURGIS) – Sturgis Public Schools has their budget for the 2020-2021 school year.

During a special meeting June 22, the Board unanimously approved the budget. Business Manager Ray Sterling says there was a change from when he presented the budget during the Board's June 15 meeting. He says the District originally planned for a $500 reduction in per pupil funding. That has been amended to a $650 reduction per pupil. That means the Sturgis Schools State funding will be reduced by $463,000.

There were no other major changes according to Sterling. He did say that the expense for the tennis courts at Sturgis Middle School have been taken out of the budget for the 2020-21 school year.

The proposed revenue for the General Fund is $31.12 million, and the proposed expenditures are $32.188 million. That will put the School District's fund balance at 15.3 percent. It was originally projected to be just over 16 percent.
